The Science

The science behind AcuKnee™ comes down to a simple strategy: support your body’s already existing healing mechanisms to relieve pain and reduce inflammation in a natural way.

AcuKnee taps into your body’s healing center by sending electrical impulses to the knee, transferring them through the spinal cord, and ultimately reaching up to the brain. Our precise electrode placement and Pain Warrior frequency sequencing help to accomplish this by suppressing interleukin-1 (IL-1), the cytokine responsible for regulating immune and inflammatory responses in the brain. Cytokines are small proteins that help to regulate interactions between cells and play a key role in healing your ongoing pain. In addition, the AcuKnee also releases endorphins and stimulates the periaqueductal grey area (control center for suppressing pain) of the brain.

Interleukin 1 (IL-1) is now believed to be the most important inflammatory cytokine responsible for the ongoing, smoldering inflammation that characterizes osteoarthritis of the knee. Electro-acupuncture (at appropriate points) has been shown to reduce levels of these damaging inflammatory compounds. Reducing Interleukin-1 can slow or stop joint destruction as well as relieve pain.

A federally funded study from the NCCAM (National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine) showed an increase in function and a substantial reduction in pain from following a limited course of acupuncture. One third of study participants chose to defer knee replacement surgery after receiving acupuncture treatment. For more evidence of the benefits of electrotherapy, please refer to the studies below.

In summary, AcuKnee offers the ability to avoid costly visits to the doctor, take charge of your own health, and dramatically reduce your knee pain all from the convenience of home with just 30 minutes a day.

The KOOS Test

The Knee injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS) is a test that’s been used for over two decades as a way for patient’s to self-assess their degree of knee injury or Osteoarthritis damage. Your KOOS result can be a great indicator as to whether you need to start considering treating the cause of your knee pain.

Understanding the degree of your knee damage is crucial to your health. Don’t miss this opportunity to quickly determine the seriousness of your condition.

Anti-inflammatory Effects of Electronic Signal Treatment
“Inflammation often plays a key role in the perpetuation of pain. Chronic inflammatory conditions (e.g. osteoarthritis, immune system dysfunction, micro-circulatory disease, painful neuritis, and even heart disease) have increased as baby boomers age. Medicine’s current anti-inflammatory choices are…”

Anticytokine Therapy for Osteoarthritis: Evidence to Date
“Several recent in vitro investigations and experimental studies performed in animal models of osteoarthritis (OA) sustained the previously held view that interleukin (IL)-1 or tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNFalpha) disrupt the metabolism of synovial joint tissues. The evidence to date indicates that…”

Clinical and Endocrinological Changes after Electro-Acupuncture Treatment in Patients with Osteoarthritis of the Knee.
“Neurobiological mechanisms invoking the release of endogenous opioids and depression of stress hormone release are believed to be the basis of acupuncture analgesia. This study compared plasma beta-endorphin and cortisol levels with self assessment scores of intensity of pain, before and after 10 days of…”

The Effectiveness of Pulsed Electrical Stimulation (E-PES) in the Management of Osteoarthritis of the Knee
“In two randomized controlled trials of four and 12 weeks duration, pulsed electrical stimulation was shown to be effective in managing the symptoms of OA of the knee. Laboratory and animal studies demonstrate the capacity of externally applied electric and electromagnetic fields to positively affect…”
